is a professionally reviewed, non-commercial website, with a wealth
of information on the effects of stress on the brain and the whole
person. There are sections for parents and those who work with
children, for mental health professionals, and for those who suffer
from the effects of extreme stress, also known as emotional trauma.
Rare Disorders
NORD
There are more than 6,000 rare or “orphan” disorders,
defined as those with fewer than 200,000 identified cases. The
National Organization for Rare Disorders is the
largest online clearinghouse for information on more than 1,000
of these conditions. NORD provides a searchable database, information
on medication assistance, contact information for numerous organizations
and support groups, many articles, and other useful services.
CORD is the
Canadian Organization for Rare Disorders and
provides similar information to that offered by NORD.
Genetic and
Rare Conditions Site is from Kansas University Medical
Center. In addition to alphabetical listings such as those on
NORD, this site provides links to Spanish language sites, offers
language translations, information for children and teens, and
assistance for adopting children with genetic disorders.
Psychotherapy
AHP Association for
Humanistic Psychology provides listings by state,
with descriptions provided by each therapist member. The site
also includes information on the history and philosophy of humanistic
psychology (founded by Carl Rogers, Abraham Maslow, and others).
APA American Psychological
Association provides a very large website with information
for both the public and professionals, including articles on a
variety of topics, a few free brochures, and a toll-free number,
1- 800 - 964 -2000 for connecting to a referral service in your
geographical area to find a psychologist.
AAMFT
American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy provides
information about Marriage and Family Therapists, as well as a

Locator national database of qualified therapists.
CAMFT
California Association for Marriage and Family Therapists is the
largest association representing MFTs. This site answers "What
is an MFT" and provides other information, as well as a Therapist
Finder for licensed MFTs in California.
Internet
Therapy Metanoia provides a comprehensive discussion
about the field of e-therapy, including suggestions for choosing
an online therapist, and what online therapy is, and is not.
